What is in my travelling packages to Vietnam?

You are preparing for your trip to Vietnam and you are not sure if your belongings are adequate so you look up online for more suggestions. Welcome to Tiger-kit-to-Vietnam!

In this article, we don’t want to mention the common things of this topic but the things that’s small but necessary. After 8 years meeting guests from all around the world, we conclude a few points all Vietnam travellers should consider.

Trousers/Long jeans
Normally, travellers often appear with shorts and tank tops in Vietnam because the weather in Vietnam is so hot (everyone says so). As a Vietnamese, I agree that in the hot seasons everything is melted. However, you should prepare some long and formal trousers due to some reasons.
Firstly, the South of Vietnam has high temperature throughout the year but the North does have a quite cold winter. It is best to check for the weather of where in Vietnam you expect to visit.

Secondly, if you are interested in religions, cultures, and local tourist attractions, it is respectful to wear long trousers to religious places. As an oriental country, the mindset of most people in Vietnam are still conservative in the way we choose clothes. We are sure that you do not want the local to stare at you wherever you go, which is uncomfortable (and unsafe sometimes). By wearing suitable clothes, you can find it easier to communicate with (or ask for help) the locals.

Durable shoes + flip-flop

Vietnam has a long coastal line so storms are indispensable all year round, which means that it can rain unpredictably at anytime. Flip-flop is an essential thing because it is open, light, and convenient. Moreover, rain jacket is also a must to Vietnam.

Besides, one of the most common means to travel around the city is actually your own foot. A good walking shoes can make sure that you go for long distance and explore the city without being hurt. The flip-flops are easy to find in Vietnam market.

Travel adapter

The power plugs used in Vietnam is plugs type A (two flat vertical pins), type C and type F (two round pins). Most electrical outlets here do not include a grounding hole so you need to prepare an adapter. Electricity supply in Vietnam is 220 Volts at 50Hz.

This is very important when you all need to re-charge all phones, laptops, cameras… to prepare for a new journey the next day. You can still find the adapter in Vietnam, however, it takes a little patience and knowledge from both you and the seller because sometimes, they don’t speak English and you don’t speak Vietnamese. You’d better buy it before your trip.
Sun protection kit (sunscreen + glasses + hat)
As mentioned above, Vietnam has the typical weather of tropical countries near the equator. You should bring along sun-protection-kit with sunscreen, glasses, and a hat to protect you from UV rays.

Insect repellent and Tiger balm

Tropical rainy weather is an ideal environment for insects to develop, especially mosquitos. Additionally, if you plan to visit some national natural reserves, insect repellent should be in your package.

Tiger balm can treat the itchy bite of insects as well. Rub it over the affected area to reduce aches, swelling and other discomfort. You can find this one in the medical store in Vietnam by around 1 US dollars.

Copies of all of your prescriptions/immunizations and your doctor’s phone number
Just in case you lose your package or it’s delayed in the airport, the copy version of them helps a lot. If you have some disease or allergy, a short explanation of your situation in Vietnamese can help the local to serve you the suitable ones.

Vietnam SIM card and phone card
You can buy a Vietnam SIM card to use the 4G internet because you will need to connection to search for direction on the map or use google translate at some points.

You may find it hard to activate the card, we will have a detailed instruction for this in the next article.

Call bank cards and credit cards to let them know you’ll be overseas
This one may cause you trouble if you didn’t prepare in advance. I have seen many of my guests could not withdraw their money because their bank account was blocked. It is just a method to prevent fraud so it is better to tell your bank that you will be overseas to make sure your card is available in other countries.

So it is necessary to inform the bank in your country about your oversea trips to avoid inconvenient cases.
